Special Education
The Texas Assessment Program is a statewide testing program. This program includes the STAAR© and STAAR Alternate 2.  Although most students will take STAAR with or without allowable accommodations, a student with a disability will be guided to the assessment which provides the most appropriate degree of support through the eligibility criteria established, whether the STAAR Alternate 2, STAAR online or a paper STAAR. To assist with understanding Assessments for Students with Disabilities, ESC Region 20 has consolidated state and regional resources into one area.
STAAR Blueprint Redesign
On November 29, 2016 TEA posted an update to the Revised STAAR Blueprints that show a reduction in the overall number of test questions for all STAAR tested subjects in grades 3-8 as per HB 743. HB 743 requires that STAAR tests be designed so that 85 percent of students in grades 3-5 can finish within two hours (120 minutes), and 85 percent of students in grades 6-8 can finish within 3 hours (180 minutes). This did not reduce the time allowed for testing which remains 4 hours for each of the tests listed above.

Beginning 2017: Versions of STAAR
Beginning with Spring 2017, the STAAR© assessment system will no longer include STAAR A or STAAR L; instead it will include a paper version of STAAR, an online version of STAAR with built in accommodations, STAAR Spanish, and STAAR Alternate 2.
