Day 1: Leadership Framework and Overview
Description: The session will include an overview of PREP, review of case study from application, education philosophy, leadership models/styles, overview of books/resources, leadership framework, vision/mission/beliefs, and change. Additionally, participants will meet the other cohort members and begin to build their new professional learning community.

Day 2: Creating Cultural Responsiveness and Prespectives on Leadership
Description:Cultural responsiveness is a critical concept for leaders and is essential in schools. What is it and how do you achieve it? This session will include multiple perspectives in defining this concept. Dr. Kimberly McLeod will share her research findings and a number of case studies with participants. The afternoon session will begin with a student panel consisting of high school age students from across the region. The day will wrap up with panel discussions with practitioners within the region. These discussions will include area superintendents, campus principals, and College of Education faculty from San Antonio area Universities. Discussions will focus on the unique attributes of effective leaders. (In collaboration with Bexar PREP)

Day 3: Effective Practices Addressing the Unique Needs of RuralSchools
Description: This session will focus on effective practices in rural schools. In the morning, PREP participants will have an opportunity to visit a rural high school or middle school in surrounding counties. The campus visit will include a welcome and overview by the campus principal and leadership team, a campus tour, classroom visits, and opportunities to talk with teachers and students. The afternoon session will include a debrief of the morning visits with a focus on lessons learned and best practices that were observed.

Day 4: Alignment and Data
Description: The morning session will focus on the use of data with an emphasis on the unique role of nominal data, teaching data and learning data. This afternoon session will also include an overview of the alignment walk process along with actual classroom walkthroughs and focused debriefs. Participants will bring their leadership framework completed. (In collaboration with Bexar PREP)

Day 5: Transforming School Culture
Description: The morning will be spent conducting campus level alignment walks to analyze alignment of instructional practices, district scope & sequence, and alignment among and between PREP participants. The focus on the afternoon session is school culture. We will visit Wagner High School in Judson ISD and experience the school culture first hand. The visit will include a school tour and a visit with a number of students who have experienced the shift in culture first hand. We will explore the concept of school culture in theory and explore successful practices related to the intentional development of school culture. Additionally, each PREP participant will receive their “Shadow a principal for a day” assignments in the afternoon. (In collaboration with Bexar PREP)

1:00-3:30 – School Culture
Location: TBD; Wagner High School, Judson ISD
Between days 5 and 6 each PREP participant will complete their “Shadow a principal for a day” with a leader in a different rural school district, but within the same grade band.
Day 6: Forwarding the Action and Celebration
Description: This session will provide a venue for the application of many of the concepts and learning that took place over the course of the year. Participants will share their leadership framework with colleagues. Participants will collaborate to address two rural school case studies. One case study will address the unique needs of diverse student cultures and cultural responsiveness and the second case study will address school culture. Additionally, we will debrief their “Shadow a Principal for a Day” and spend some time discussing various leadership frameworks, professional portfolios, and the interview process. The day will culminate in a celebration of completion with a brief ceremony and recognition of Southern Regional PREP participants. The participants’ superintendents, principals, and other district leaders are encouraged to attend.
