UTSA Parent Academy Graduates
On Saturday, June 25th, several of our Migrant parents were honored with a graduation ceremony for their efforts in completing the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives College & Career Parent Academy.

Parents were invited to participate over three Saturday’s while their children were concurrently being prepared to participate in the Close-Up Washington DC trip. Parents were divided into groups and asked to identify a critical issue within their community. Issues were researched, solutions were identified, and parents were asked to develop a plan for communicating and sharing lessons learned. On the final Saturday meeting, parents came together and delivered group presentations describing their research project along with recommendations to address the problems and how they were planning to share the results with others in their respective communities.

The graduation ceremony was hosted on the UTSA downtown campus. Graduates were provided with complete graduation regalia. Their children, family and friends joined the parents for this celebration and lunch. Belinda Harmon, P-20 Initiatives staff stated it perfectly, “What a wonderful example for their children and community.” Congrats to our graduates!
