Content Preparation
The purpose of Content
Preparation is to familiarize TAPP candidates with the content
of their target certificate and to prepare them to pass the
appropriate Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) content exam. Content Preparation is one
semester in length, in the fall or spring. Candidates must
complete 14 weeks of training. Three-hour classes are held in
the evening and candidates attend either Monday and Wednesday or
Tuesday and Thursday. Attendance is at the appropriate distance
learning site for your district and target certificate.
Testing and Book
Studies
The Content Preparation cycle is
a condensed and intensive period of study that requires
self-direction and discipline for success. Attendance is
mandatory and candidates must plan to study and review the test
materials on their own. It is important to the candidate’s
success that he/she takes the initiative for independent study
and/or to form study groups as necessary. Candidates must also
complete the online book studies required for their target
certificate. TExES, Texas Oral Proficiency Exam (TOPT), and SBEC candidates are given a bar
code by their educational specialist to register for the TExES
content-area test. Candidates should pass the content-area
requirements of the TExES prior to entering the Summer cycle. If
the candidate does not pass the content-area test, he/she may be
required to also take the next cycle of content preparation
sessions.
Online Book
Studies
Simultaneously, all candidates will continue online classes as
appropriate for their certificate. The summer online book studies
support a six-week format: June 11 through July 24 and July
25-September 4. The online book studies are provided below. Spring
and Summer book study dates are subject to change.
