District Safety Teams and Committees

TEC § Sec. 37.115. THREAT ASSESSMENT AND SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE SCHOOL PROGRAM AND TEAM
The 86th Texas Legislature and SB11 mandated districts establish SSSP teams (TEC 37.220).  One responsibility is to conduct threat assessments of individuals who make threats of violence, or exhibit harmful, threatening, or violent behavior, gather and analyze information to make a determination of the level of risk and appropriate intervention.  Members of the team must attend an approved School Behavior Threat Assessment training.
The School Safety and Security Committee is a working group of diverse individuals that serves the members of its school district or open enrollment charter school by helping create and maintain a safe and secure school climate for staff and students.
As defined by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is appointed by the school district to serve at the district level and to provide guidance to the district on coordinated school health programming (curriculum) and its impact on student health and learning.
