  • Mental Health Resources through Bexar County - In October 2020, the Bexar County Commissioners Court implemented new ways in which members of our community can seek mental health support through our first responder infrastructure. This specialized response is organized, coordinated, and executed under the name Specialized Multidisciplinary Alternate Response Team or S.M.A.R.T. and serves the area of unincorporated Bexar County and our 26 suburban cities.
  • Center for Health Care Services - The Center for Health Care Services provides quality integrated care to improve the lives of children and adults with mental health conditions, substance use challenges and intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Vaccine Resources for Uninsured Students

  • City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District’s Immunization Clinic

  • Call 211, a program by Texas Health and Human Services Commission providing citizens with information on over 60,000 local and state services. When you call, you will be asked for your zip code, if you are in the military, and your age. The operator will then provide you phone numbers within your zip code of clinics that administer vaccines.

  • Communities In Schools - The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Based directly inside schools throughout Bexar County and surrounding areas, Communities In Schools of San Antonio connects children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources tailored to each student’s specific needs.

  • Khan Academy - With practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard, Khan Academy empowers learners to study at their own pace, both in and out of the classroom. Covering subjects from kindergarten through early college, including math, science, reading, computing, history, art history, economics, financial literacy, SAT, MCAT, and more, Khan Academy focuses on skill mastery to help learners build the strong foundations they need to succeed in higher education and in their careers.

Federal, State and Other Student Aid

There are many resources available to help students finance a college education. One of the largest misconceptions about obtaining a university education is that it is simply too expensive for many. Below, we have gathered some financial assistance resources and some scholarship links specific to Migratory students.
 
FAFSA
This is the website where one completes The Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Once you have completed the application, you can check the status of your application, make corrections to a processed FAFSA and get other information.
 
Texas Application for State Financial Aid – TASFA

The Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is used by participating institutions of higher education in Texas to collect information to help determine a student’s eligibility for state financial aid.

MALDEF: (Mexican American Legal Defense Fund)
These scholarships do not require a social security number, legal residency, or citizenship in order to apply. Contact each scholarship provider for details about updated requirements and deadlines.

This link provides information about The Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The HSF is a general college scholarship designed to assist students of Hispanic Heritage to obtain a college degree. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

Migrant Specific Scholarships

The following is a list of scholarships designed specifically to assist migrant/migratory students as they pursue their higher education goals and aspirations.  Please read the descriptions carefully to see which applies to you.

The AMET Scholarship program is designed to assist high school migrant students who have a history of migration and have the potential and desire to obtain a college degree. Awards will be available in August when the student provides proof of enrollment or admittance to the college or trade school.

 

Each year the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME) awards one or more scholarships to graduating migratory high school seniors to enable them to enter college. The scholarship, named after a staunch advocate for migratory students, is intended to assist migratory agricultural or fishing students who are dedicated students with a significant financial need who have moved with their family or on their own for agricultural or fishing employment.
