Instructional Materials
As defined by the Texas Education Code §31.002, instructional materials are resources designed to deliver essential knowledge and skills in the public school curriculum. These materials can be presented through various media formats and are intended for use by teachers, principals, and students to support effective learning.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) defines Instructional Materials as any medium or combination of media that deliver the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a subject in the public school curriculum. This includes resources such as lesson plans and grading rubrics. TEA supports and coordinates the review and approval of instructional materials by the State Board of Education (SBOE) and provides oversight for their statewide implementation.
ESC Region 20 is committed to supporting districts in understanding, adopting, and implementing High-Quality Instructional Materials, along with the associated programs, products, and platforms. While the selection of instructional materials remains a local decision, our team is here to provide guidance and support for any choice made by our districts.
