Visually Impaired
Supporting Students with Visual Impairments
Students with visual impairments have unique needs that require specialized training to be successful beyond public school to get ready to further their education, become employable, and/or learn to live independently. In addition to the general curriculum received by all students, students with visual impairments need evaluation and/or instruction in the nine areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum from birth until graduation or aging out. The nine areas include:
The Expanded Core Curriculum
Compensatory Skills | Independent Living |
Orientation and Mobility | Recreation and Leisure |
Social Interaction | Self-Determination |
Career Education | Sensory Efficiency |
Assistive Technology |
